Economics of War

I just learned a simple economic principle:

People will use lots of an abundant resource to compensate for a scarce resource.

Example:
Farmers in Japan use a lot of workers on a little land.

Abundant resource: People
Scarce resource: Land.

Farmers in the U.S. use a lot of land and few workers.
Abundant resource: Land
Scarce resource: People.

We place more value on scarce resources.

This principle also applies to the current war on terror. The U.S. tries to supply its soldiers with expensive state-of-the-art equipment.
Abundant resource: Money
Scarce resource: People.

Terrorists use makeshift bombs to blow themselves up.
Abundant resource: People
Scarce resource: Money.

When the U.S. begins to draft soldiers again, we will know that our society values money over human life. Instead of spending more money on battle armor and weaponry that would make a few soldiers more efficient, they will just toss in more soldiers.

Until then, support our troops by paying your taxes. That's right, paying taxes is patriotic.

Those who think otherwise do not understand where the money comes from that supports our troops.
