One Way to Read It

We recently watched three seasons of 30 Rock. In one episode, Tracy Jordan introduces the " Meat Machine ," a device for making all-meat sandwiches. Reality copied TV recently when KFC released this abomination into the world: An all-meat sandwich. If this hadn't already been forbidden by God on four occasions (twice in the Old Testament , once in the Doctrine and Covenants , and once in the Quoran ), he would have issued a new commandment expressly forbidding this abomination, which notoriety would surely have increased sales. I believe it is okay to eat meat in moderation. Our current food system abuses animals while they are yet alive, which is immoral. Listen to Tracy Morgan's interview on Fresh Air . Conservatives worry that the U.S. might limit imports of slave labor. From Crooks and Liars Chomsky recently blew my mind by saying that corporations are totalitarian states. Makes sense. At work you have no rights but those which the company gives you. At work, you have no 1st amendment right to gather together to discuss grievances. So corporations are like tyranny zones, places within the U.S. where our constitutional rights are nullified. Chomsky also argues that slavery has not ended in the U.S. (Warning: He takes a long time to say anything, but he's worth listening to.) In sum, there are two forms of slavery: wage and chattel. Under chattel slavery, the slave master owns his slave, and therefore has an incentive to take care of him so that he'll last longer. Corporations don't care about your kids. They care about your money. They'll say pretty much anything to get your money. They'll say that you should feed your baby a diet of processed sugar. That it's "proven" that it will have social and/or health benefits. For example: in the 1970's Nestle suffered a scandal because their salespeople had told poor mothers that Nestle infant formula was better than breast milk. The poor mothers would spend what little money they had on food that was less nutritious for their baby. As a result children suffered malnourishment and some even died. Poor, undereducated mothers continue to breast feed less than wealthier, more educated mothers. Nothing has changed. Fruit Loops was recently labeled a "Smart Choice" food for being high in fiber. The 9/12 marches are not spontaneous grass-roots protests. They are the manipulated guinea pigs of large, rich political organizations that use Glenn Beck as their mouth piece. Some say that Fox is the only station that will cover the protests. If Fox gets there first it is only because they have insider knowledge. Fox created the protests. A woman who was diagnosed with breast cancer had her insurance revoked when she scheduled an expensive double mastectomy. The woman was willing to have her breasts removed in order to live. Instead she had her insurance revoked, and had to wait months to battle the insurance companies, and she knew the whole time that cancer grew inside her, and that the longer she waited, the less likely she was to live. During a congressional hearing on the matter of rescission, the CEOs of three major insurance companies said that they would not change their policy of preying upon the weak.
