Health Care
My wife's high school history teacher is selling his text books to pay for his cancer treatment.
We, the people, run this country. But we have jobs to do and kids to raise, which leaves us little time to govern. So we elect others to govern in our stead. By paying taxes, we give them the money to carry out our will. With our money they build roads, pay teachers, and wage war. If our elected officials do not use the time and money we give them to do our will, then we elect someone else.
Right now our money is being used to hurt people. With the excuse of keeping ourselves safe, we attacked another country which had never attacked us. Our money bought the bombs that blew up people who had never bombed us. If we can afford to hurt people we can afford to help people.
Our tax money builds roads. Roads are important. I use a road to go to work, school, and to visit my family. Our money built those roads. Our money pays those five workers who stand around in orange vests watching the one worker operating that expensive machinery, which our money also bought. I would be willing to drive over a couple more potholes if it meant my wife's high school history teacher could afford to pay for his cancer treatment.
I imagine the Savior, too, would think the man, who fell among thieves on his way to Jericho, worth far more than the road he walked.
Many fear that their hard earned money would go to the lazy. Lazy people can hurt any system. And I have only one answer to this. In King Benjamin's words, from Mosiah, Chapter 3:
17 Perhaps thou shalt asay: The man has brought upon himself his misery; therefore I will stay my hand, and will not give unto him of my food, nor impart unto him of my substance that he may not suffer, for his punishments are just— 19 For behold, are we not all abeggars?
The earth is full. There is enough, and to spare, if we but use our resources wisely.

18 But I say unto you, O man, whosoever doeth this the same hath great cause to repent; and except he repenteth of that which he hath done he perisheth forever, and hath no interest in the kingdom of God.
