The economics of alms

If you run a business you have to buy or rent the business property from the owner. You usually pay the owner from your earnings.

As we have all profited from the earth, we owe at least a portion of our profits to the Owner. He has said that we can pay him back by giving to the least of our brethen: the poor.

If we do not give a portion of our income to the poor, we are in open rebellion against the Owner of the earth. We claim the earth as our own, and we will perish with it.

  1. Why can't I ever put things quite this way?

I've never thought of God as the Earth's landlord. He's sure a lot less crazy than the landlord I've got right now.
