The Good Samaritan for Obama
The Parable of the Good Samaritan goes like this:
A guy gets mugged and stripped naked. He's left on the side of the road.
A priest and a Levite pass him by, but a Samaritan stops to help him.
This was a radical tale for Jesus to tell because Samaritans were like the Muslims of the 1st century. They were distrusted and hated by the majority religion.
Obama leads Democrats (the donkey) to help the poor.
It was like a an American boy getting mugged,
and having Jerry Falwell and Sarah Palin walk past him,
and then an al Qaeda Muslim stops to help.
Obama is not a Muslim, but he is in the minds of those to whom it would matter. (like people who watch Fox News)
Each of us has our own excuse for walking past the poor. It's our money. They deserve what they get. They're lazy and will take advantage of us.
But Obama gets it.
I'll let him speak for himself:
"If there's a child on the south side of Chicago who can't read, that matters to me, even if it's not my child.

Obama always talk about helping others, contributing to the poor, etc. Does he do it though?
ReplyDeleteObama has made more than $250,000 since 2001. Only in one year has he donated more than 5% to charity (6.1% in 2006) - all the other times he was in the one percentile range.

It seems to me that Obama would have the Pharisee vote. You know, those that talk a lot and do little? Hypocrisy, incidentally, is the sin most condemned by Jesus in his earthly ministry...
To be specific, Obama donated 1% to charity in 2000, .5% in 2001, .4% in 2002, 1.4% in 2003, 1.2% in 2004, then 4.7% in 2005 and 6.1% in 2006 (this is when he decides to run for President that he starts donating more.) Most years, he donated about a tenth of what we pay in tithing, not even considering all the other contributions we make.
ReplyDeleteAre you taking Cindy McMoneybags into account? McCain can give away "a fourth" of his income without breaking a sweat, because he has seven houses and a vault of gold to back him up.

Unfortunately, Cindy McCain's tax records aren't public. But according to Obama, isn't $250,000 the point where you have so much money that you can give half of it away and wipe yourself with the other half anyway? So if he's making that much, why isn't he doing his part to "be part of the deal"? Come on Barack, jump on board, help dig America out of the rut.

ReplyDelete-While I don't watch Fox News I do know people who do. I think these are the kind of comments that make your blog unable to reach those of a different view than you. People feel offended and that you are lumping them into being bigots or racists if they don't share your views. I don't think that's how we help each other see where we are coming from. -Lauren
Also I am kind of confused as to how you've gotten here from the day that you told me that voting for McCain and voting for Obama is not really different at all once you had read "Revolution".
ReplyDeleteI am not saying I am voting for Obama, I am not saying I am voting for McCain. In fact, I think I'm not going to vote for either and vote for someone who I feel like I could truly back if they were in the presidency. You say that's a wasted vote? I live in Utah...people already tell me my vote is a waste, so at least my moral conscience can not be wasted.

Ron Paul did convince me that both candidates are much more similar than they lead on. But I think Obama is the better candidate. He's kept his promise not to go negative, regardless of what Brian says. The "Old" commercial is an exception rather than the rule, whereas McCain has gone ridiculously negative. He uses hope instead of fear and hate. I like that.
We just watched "Why We Fight." McCain should have won in 2000. He would have made a better president.
Socialism scares me.

There are other venues for the poor!!! As a mormon you should comlpetely understand this!

ReplyDeleteThe Executive and Legislative branches of government were in the hands of Republicans for 7 years, and look what happened to our national debt and economy.
Republicans are not conservative. Liberal and conservative, right and left, are simplified misnomers.
Republicans traditionally promise not to tax, but they will still print and spend money, which is a sneaky tax that devalues your money.
