United Juntas of America

--Thomas Jefferson to David Humphreys, 1789.
Jefferson read history, and knew that standing armies had turned the free Republic of Rome into a dictatorship. He made sure that this would not happen in the free nation which he helped establish.
200 years later, it has happened.

Boots hit the ground October 1st. It will be a permanent mission.
Our nation has become the greatest in the world because of the strength of the liberties upon which is was founded. It is turning away from those liberties to base its strength on military power.
Under the guise of national security our government has:
invaded a sovereign nation without provocation,
arrested and imprisoned people without trial,
tortured innocent, uncondemned prisoners,
cracked down on peaceful protesters, most of them dumb kids [I'm looking for the link], who are no threat to national security,
wrested control of financial institutions,
spied on citizens, and its own troops, without warrant,
continues to embargo the poor nation of Cuba based on their choice of government, while trading freely with China which operates under the same form of government,
continues a war that the majority of citizens, both U.S. and Iraqi, are opposed to,
threatens war with Iran, the largest self-established democracy in the Middle East,
and unceasingly threatens the peace and civil liberties of those abroad and at home.
For these and other reasons, I call for a peaceful revolution.
Vote Obama by Nov. 4th.
What else can you do? Nothing.
You cannot control the Army. You cannot write your representatives about your outrage, because, unlike the National Guard, the Army reports only the the Commander-in-Chief.

When things like this freak me out, I'm grateful that I have other reasons not to be scared. Now, if I could just remember what they were...
