Steve Takes It Back: Obama Stinks

In an earlier post I quoted my friend Steve as saying he voted McCain, but is glad Obama won because he'll make a better president.

Steve took it back:
"I retract my statement that I am glad that Obama won. For some reasons I am glad he won, but, for the most important reason to me, I am disappointed to have a president that doesn’t have a strong position against the legalizing of same-sex marriage."

For the full response he gave, check the comments on the post "Voting For the Worser Man."

Thanks Steve. Sorry I called you dumb, you've proved you are not.

I still disagree. I think we should work for this issue, but I don't think we should use it as the basis for selecting our nation's leader.

  1. If moral issues are not important factors in selection leaders, what issues do you think we should use as a basis for selecting our nation's leader?

  2. Moral issues are important, which is why McCain is a poor candidate for preserving the family, because destroyed his own by committing adultery against his first wife.

The woman he had an affair with? His current wife.

A candidate should have sound moral judgment. Obama has shown that he is a family man. He has spoken to black men about the importance of being a father. And he was one of the first senators to speak out against the unprovoked attack on Iraq.

It is easy for us to see gay marriage as a moral issue because our church has told us that it is. Obama is not a member of our church, so he may not think so strongly about it. This does not mean he lacks a moral backbone.

It's a difficult issue, made more difficult by the expansion of power under the Bush administration. The federal government should not have so much say in our lives. These decisions should be left to the states where we have more control over them.

The current trend in Republicanism is the unconstitutional grab for power. Hopefully Obama will put a stop to such wrecklessness, and gay marriage as a standard for electing the executive will become a non-issue.
