Is this another Libertarian/Democrat like me?


Excerpts from his "Letter to Republican Traitors" (those who have hijacked the Republican Party)
"I used to be one of you. As recently as 2000 I worked to get Senator McCain elected in that year's primary. (McCain and Gen. Tommy Franks wrote glowing endorsements regarding my book about military service, AWOL.). I have a file of handwritten thank you notes from Presidents Ford, Reagan, Bush I and II."

"How can anyone who loves our country support the Republicans now? Barry Goldwater, William F. Buckley and Ronald Reagan defined the modern conservatism that used to be what the Republican Party I belonged to was about. Today no actual conservative can be a Republican. Reagan would despise today's wholly negative Republican Party. And can you picture the gentlemanly and always polite Ronald Reagan, endorsing a radio hate-jock slob who crudely mocked a man with Parkinson's and who now says he wants an American president to fail?!"

His call to unite behind the President may be countered with "Well, you liberals didn't support Bush." But we did. After the catastrophe of 9/11, we all stood behind him. He had 90% approval ratings, which is unheard of. Sadly, once the catastrophe was over, it was politics as usual.

Now we face a new catastrophe. One we brought on ourselves (especially if you're a banker, a car-maker, or a debt crazy consumer). And we should support our president.

Meet Thomas Paine

"Thomas Paine came to America from Great Britain in 1774 when he was 37 years old. He burned with righteous indignation at the cruel tyranny of kings. Half a million copies of "Common Sense," his plainspoken call for rebellion, flooded this fledgling nation of three million people. His rhetoric so moved and persuaded George Washington that he read Paine's words to the troops at Valley Forge. After America won its independence, Paine found himself in another fight, the French Revolution, and wrote another best-seller, "The Rights of Man." But he got into trouble in France and was thrown into prison, narrowly avoiding execution. He returned to America in 1802, a prophet without honor in the nation he helped to create."
