Utah Republicans Tax the Poor
Utah Republicans voted to increase vehicle registration by $20.
I'm kind of being a partisan jerk lately. It's because I watch Fox News when I go to the gym, and it just makes me so angry. They hyped up a ridiculous story that Obama's plan to heighten taxes on cigarettes was a tax on the poor, and therefore a broken campaign promise.
But back to my jerk argument. Everyone drives. The cigarette tax isn't going to affect me. But this will. $20 more of my dollars to Uncle Sam. And what's he going to do with it? He's not going to build me a parking garage.
Hey, if every Provo driver sends me $20, I'll build a parking garage.

sorry to burst your bubble...but with obama in office your taxes can only get worse.
ReplyDeleteGood one, Crystal! True dat...
ReplyDeleteYeah, these guys have some tough decisions to make. I guess in this situation it was either raise vehicle registration $20 or try to reinstate the food tax, and Gov. Huntsman sure wouldn't go for that, nor would anyone else.
Then again, I'd rather they find and eliminate something unnecessary or redundant that costs $50 million, instead of instituting this "budget enhancement".
This is 20 more dollars to Utah Sam, not Uncle Sam. And this will fund essential I-15 projects or education.
PS
Are you serious about the parking garage?!?
Thank you everyone for your comments. I know that much of what I write is either wrong or crazy, but I enjoy the conversation, feedback, and things I learn.
ReplyDeleteI'm completely serious about the parking garage.
I just read the comments on the parking garage post, and I agree with that Josh guy. I do not think it's the federal government's responsibility to fund a parking garage in Provo, UT. Whether the gov't is responsible for your owning a car is a different matter.
ReplyDeleteOptional taxes might be nice, I'll have to think about it some more.
