Bait and Switch
In fear after 9/11, we gave more power to the president, and we passed anti-terrorist laws to protect ourselves.
Former president Bush abused that power, and Obama intends to keep it.
And the laws that were supposed to protect us from terrorists are being used to subdue civil unrest.
Acting in fear is unwise. We acted in fearful haste after 9/11, and we have approached the current economic crisis with that same mindset.
Glenn Beck is trying to peg this tyranny on Obama. That way you will vote for a Republican next time around. And you will get the same result. This tyranny originated with Bush, and will not go away by voting for either party. They both want this power when they hold the reins.
Tyranny is the natural result of a complacent and ignorant populace.
Ron Paul promised to end this of unconstitutional abuse of power. But he will never become president. Why? Because he will not support the interests of big business by means of unprovoked wars of expansion. And the president is elected on their dollar.
Dang.
I still support Obama. This is not a reprimand to the powerful. It is a reprimand to you, the uninformed and complacent citizen. In your fear and partisan patriotism you trusted our government with power it was never supposed to have.
Once given, power is difficult to take away. We should have revolted in 2001 when the Patriot Act was debated. We should have cried and demanded justice for the torture and wiretappings of the last few years. But we feel safe, because our bellies are full, and there is plenty on TV, and bombs only drop overseas. And perhaps we will stay content for many years, even decades. But the foundation of tyranny has been laid.
I feel like a crazy person for writing this rant. But the Founders were just as aware of the almost inevitable road to tyranny. And so they set up the constitution to protect us from it, but most of our politicians (Romney, Giuliani) think that that document is no longer relevant.
