People who say, "I don't like either candidate." mean that McCain turns them off, and Obama is a Democrat, and don't democrats marry gay people and kill babies? So they are against McCain because of who he is, and against Obama because of his party. At least in Utah. Does it make you angry to be lumped into a category like this? Not as angry as it makes me to think you'll vote for Palin the Bush-clone to avoid "the lesser of two evils." I actually kind of like McCain. But he has run a campaign of fear and hate. Our current government uses those same tactics. They use fear because a populace that is afraid of an external enemy will unite against their own best interests. Obama inspires hope and uses reason. Because he thinks we Americans are smart, and are able to base decisions on more than gut feelings. Terrorists use fear to get people to do what they want. Under this definition, Bush, McCain, and Palin are terrorists. We have nothing to fear but...

How to Lose an Election in Utah

Image
This guy isn't stupid, he's just foreign. Doesn't get the nuances of local politics. Apparently he ran for office in South America (Peru?), won, but then the government was overthrown. So he fled the country and came to Utah, and ran for office here. Two reasons he'll lose: 1. He advertises that he's a Democrat. That costs him the Republicans, which is like 90% of the vote. 2. He says he's for McCain. That costs him any Democrats that might have voted for him. Oops.

How Wall Street Owns You

Image
We work all our lives for someone else. You have to go to school to make money, so you take out a loan from the bank to pay the school, and you are in debt to the bank. Then you have to buy a house to raise your family, so you take out a loan to pay the home owner, and you are in debt to the bank. There are other things you want to buy, a car to get to work, other goods to make life worth living. So you get a loan, or use your credit card. And you are in debt to the bank. Then you get sick of your job and want to be your own boss, so you take out a loan to start a company. And you are in debt to the bank. Every day you go to work for someone else. You put in a good day's labor, but you don't get to keep what you make. A big portion of your money will go to those who own you, until you are too old and worn to work anymore. It is a pretty good system. We are happy slaves. And others profit from our work, because they have money. They do not need to work. That is our job.

" There are instruments so dangerous to the rights of the nation and which place them so totally at the mercy of their governors that those governors, whether legislative or executive, should be restrained from keeping such instruments on foot but in well-defined cases. Such an instrument is a standing army ." --Thomas Jefferson to David Humphreys, 1789. Jefferson read history, and knew that standing armies had turned the free Republic of Rome into a dictatorship. He made sure that this would not happen in the free nation which he helped establish. 200 years later, it has happened. Kathy wrote: "why haven't we raised a cry of alarm about the idea of U.S. troops policing our own streets ?" Boots hit the ground October 1st. It will be a permanent mission. How the military handles protest in the junta of Myanmar Our nation has become the greatest in the world because of the strength of the liberties upon which is was founded. It is turning away from those libe...

Human Capital and Spreading the Wealth

Image
War is the exchange of human capital for money. The $700,000,000,000 bank bailout was a onetime deal. Every year we give $400,000,000,000 to war profiteers. Let me say that again. The government takes our money, and every year, gives it to rich people who design and build weapons of mass destruction. This is redistribution of wealth on a mass scale. It dwarfs the current debate. Neither candidate will debate this. They are both for it. Those who oppose it will be labeled 'weak' on defense. They will be booed for neglecting the troops. By 'the exchange of human capital' I mean that we kill our own troops, other troops, and civilians for profit. This year you are not voting for big government or small government. You're voting on to what extent we should spend our money on destruction abroad or construction at home. Unlike cashing in on human capital, investing in human capital does not make money. If we invest $400 billion in war, some will profit at the expe...
